In the hands-on session, you will learn how to create a design to transfer onto linoleum. If you have your own design, feel free to bring it with you! The instructor will show you how to transfer your design onto linoleum using transfer paper or direct drawing. You will learn to use carving tools properly and experiment with different cutting techniques to make your design stand out. Safety precautions when working with sharp tools will be emphasized.
You will also explore different printing methods, including hand printing and using a printing press. The workshop provides an opportunity to discuss ideas, share experiences, and gain inspiration from fellow participants.
About Pavel Piekar
Pavel Piekar was born in 1960 in Ostrava and grew up in Tábor from the age of three. He studied at the Faculty of Civil Engineering at CTU in Prague, and after graduating in 1983, he worked in the research department of Průmstav. Since 1990, he has been employed at the National Gallery.
For over 26 years, he has been dedicated to the art of black-and-white and color linocut in his studio in Dejvice. Each artwork is based on a precise, realistic drawing. The original sketch is copied onto separate linoleum plates—each color requires a separate matrix—and the final result is a layered color linocut print. Depending on the complexity of the subject, the number of colors ranges from 5 to 50. He prints limited editions using a combination of printing and oil paints.
Since 1990, he has regularly exhibited his work in both solo and group exhibitions. His artworks can be found in public and private collections. He is a member of the Art Society Umělecká beseda and Hollar.
